If I am not the richest person on this earth, then I am surely not even the poorest one. If we weigh our richness in wealth and money, certainly there will be people richer as well as poorer than us.With the high we get from money, we tend to look down upon people who we think are poor, with an illusion that they are inferior to us. Just because someone is impoverished, doesn’t mean he is a lesser being than anyone else. What we don’t understand is that real wealth is the human values and compassion that we harbor in our hearts, and that certainly needs no money. So the people we think are poorer than us, might actually be far richer than us. Every person in this world is equal and deserves as much respect from you as you expect from him/her.
To stress upon that reality, here is today’s poem, dedicated to the spirit of humanity and equality.
Man on the road...
Yes, he looks a bit different,
From the gentry at your club.
Sure he walks without an air,
With his feet grounded on earth.
I bet he’s wearing those clothes,
Glistening with sweat and dust.
But make no mistake my friend,
He’s as dear as you to Lord.
Let us show some respect,
For the man on the road.
No, he doesn’t want your wealth,
He’s content with what he has got.
Nor is he seeking your sympathy,
Head’s high, though his luck is running drought.
He’s not even envy of your lavishes,
He has learnt to enjoy the naught.
All he expects from world my friend,
Is to treat him like your folk.
Let us show some respect,
For the man on the road.
You know it’s purely a chance,
he might well have born as you.
Guess what if you were him, and
he was sitting there instead of you.
Just admire his courage in face of,
the hardship he’s going through.
And all the while you are sailing,
He’s toiling in daylight broad,
Let us show some respect,
For the man on the road.
Let us show some respect,
For that man on the road.
- Dr. Prashant Bhatt

So let’s respect every human being we come across on road, irrespective of his socioeconomic status. Because everyone is as human as anyone else, and that’s what equates us, and that’s the only thing that matters.
